Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has accused Local Government Minister July Moyo and other Zanu PF officials of blocking his campaign rally in Gokwe yesterday.
Several people including journalists were yesterday attacked by suspected Zanu PF supporters where Chamisa was holding a rally ahead of the forthcoming Gokwe-Kabuyuni by-elections set for tomorrow.
Addressing journalists in Harare Friday , Chamisa accused ruling party officials of imposing themselves on police officers.
“What shocks me is wherever I go there is always a counter programme by Zanu PF exactly at the venue where we will be holding our meeting just yesterday in Gokwe I was shocked that July Moyo, McKenzie Ncube, Larry Mavhima were literally coordinating an alternative and a counter programme not elsewhere but we were holding our meeting and they imposed themselves on the police and making the lives of our police officers very difficult because they then poisoned it into politics.
“Instead of our police officers doing their duty they are now being accused of belonging to one party or the other, very unfortunate that has been the case elsewhere. They chased after our convoy and we had to find ways through our security team to block them, they had guns AK47s and of course they had almost 21 vehicles but I understand that July Moyo was also part of that delegation. What shocks me is that we have Government ministers who are behaving like little thugs, I don’t understand it, and they literally incite violence, sponsor and coordinate violence which is very unfortunate,” Chamisa said
The opposition leader vowed to continue with his rallies across the country urging President Mnangagwa to accept reasonable rivalry.
“I want to say to Zanu PF, I will go anywhere and everywhere, you will not stop me. You are not the owners of this land, Zimbabwe belongs to Zimbabweans. Mr Mnangagwa accept fair competition don’t resort to your tactics that you have used before they will not work on me, I can tell you this. I am ready for peace, I am ready to fight to the finish.
“I know that you are using unconstitutional means, underhand tactics and you have also been using the courts but I can tell you victory for the citizens is certain and we are determined, the people are determined, no darkness last forever, all darkness is but for a season,” vowed the opposition leader
He added “The past six months, it’s shocking to see that we have over 28 arrests mainly of opposition leaders including the Nyatsime 16, just yesterday alone in Gokwe 13 people were badly injured. I saw all of them some were burnt literally by fire, torture in broad daylight. Why? Because you are putting on a yellow t-shirt.”
