I’m not going back to ZANU PF: Mujuru

Former Vice President and Zimbabwe People First leader (ZIM PF) Joyce Mujuru declared that she will not be going back to Zanu PF.

Addressing party supporters at her maiden star rally in Harare, Mujuru said she is now a transformed person and will never go back to the revolutionary party.

“Many people are asking what is People First, what do they stand for and what are Mujuru’s intentions, let me make it clear, I’m not going to ZANU PF again,” said Mujuru while declaring  that her new party was not an extension of the ruling party.

Mujuru said Zim PF was formed on the basis of unity, democracy, peace and tolerance which she said lacked in her former party.

The liberation war hero dismissed the accusations leveled against her when she  was booted out of ZANU PF as malicious rumors by her detractors. She said it is baffling that reputable people, would use cheap political statements to oust her.

Mujuru further questioned why she has not been probed for all that she stands accused of especially that she and her cabal were siding with the West by pursuing pro-western policies.

Mujuru, who was booted  out of  the ruling party  in 2014 over allegations of plotting to topple  Mugabe, said she was pushed out because she wanted to change Zanu PF’s ruthless policies.

However, the late General Mujuru’s widow refuted  claims that she was spearheading a team which sought to topple President Mugabe  saying she only wanted the ruling party to respect views of the people.

“ It has been two years since a lot of accusations were levelled against me and my fellow elders, (Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Dzikamai Mavhaire) but not a single day have we seen a warrant of arrest for our alleged misdeeds. Doesn’t this say a lot about those that were spreading such rumors?” questioned Mujuru before thanking everyone for the “support during the trying times”

Turning to the economy, she said privatization of defunct Parastatals will be a major priority as Parastatals are supposed to be helping government with money not vice versa.

“We will make sure that we revitalize industries and we will put in places measures that will make sure all Parastatals that are underperforming are privatized so as to generate income for government. We don’t want Parastatals that wait on the government to give them money. That’s not how it should be,” added Mujuru.

“Corruption remains a hindrance to economic growth and we want everyone implicated to be arrested regardless of their political stature,” said Mujuru while adding that ZANU PF has tendency of protecting its own, a move which she said is against the rule of law.
