Hwende Confirms Mwonzora Warning Letter

Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Secretary General Charlton Hwende has confirmed that his office wrote to party Deputy Secretary for International Affairs Senator Douglas Mwonzora warning him against speaking to the media.

Posting on Twitter yesterday, Hwende said they had written to Mwonzora reminding him to desist from discussing party affairs in the media without authority from the party.

“The Party MDC today wrote a letter to Senator Mwonzora reminding him of the need to desist from discussing Party affairs with the media without authority from the Party. Only the Party Spokesperson, the SG and the President are authorized to speak on behalf of MDC,” said Hwende.

Mwonzora is in the eye of a storm following his comments in the Daily News where he warned the party against warming up to expelled former Zanu PF members.

Yesterday, a warning letter written to Mwonzora by Hwende leaked on social media. In the letter, Hwende warned Mwonzora to desist from discussing party affairs in the media.

There are unconfirmed rumors that Mwonzora will soon be dragged to a disciplinary hearing to answer to charges of breaching party resolution on ‘message discipline.’
