Harare Derby: A game which divides the capital

Unlike previous encounters where the Green Machine came in as underdogs Caps United are on an impressive run, picking 7 points from a possible 9 in their last 3 games of which one was away from home.

Dynamos on the other hand by their own lofty standards are having a topsy turvy season, where they have collected four points in their three outings.

They are yet to find the back of the net at home having failed to score in their first league encounter against Triangle and also in the Independence Trophy semi final where they lost 1-0 Joey Antipas’ Chicken Inn.

Their 2-1 win against Mutare City Rovers was a confident booster ahead of their showdown with old foes Caps united.

On the other hand Caps put away their off field troubles away to snatch victory over Harare City. It is on the backdrop of these victories that the latest edition of the Harare derby will definitely divide the capital.

Interestingly Caps United have not managed to collect a full set of points against Dynamos since 2009 when a Nyasha Mushekwi double sank  Dembare at the ceremonial home of football, Rufaro Stadium.

It was Lloyd Chitembwe who masterminded Dynamos’ fall and on Sunday he will be in the dug out to plot against the former champions whose technical team is sitting on a three match ultimatum though their coach Jorge Silva refuted the allegations.

A defeat against their old enemy will certainly send alarm bells in the blue camp as they want to maintain their dominance over the star studded United.

Should Caps who are bankrolled by Harare businessman Farai Jere steamroll past their opponents it will send signals to other teams that they are in for the title considering that they have managed crucial victories against two of their bogey sides  (Chapungu 3-0) and (Harare City 2-1).

It is certainly going to be one of the best derbies in recent times considering that Dembare would want to reclaim their dwindling status and on the other hand Makepepe would want to erase the tag of playing second fiddle.
