Harare residents should brace for yet another round of house demolitions as the city fathers have hinted of a re-organization of all settlements where people are illegally settled.
In a statement to the media today, the city council warned residents to verify authenticity of any land sale first before partying with their hard earned cash since the government has put a stop on all housing cooperative deals.
“The government banned council from dealing with housing cooperatives after noticing that there is cheating and disinvestment on the citizenry.
“There is also a ban from the government stopping cooperatives from collecting money from residents because there is going to be a re-organization of the settlements where people are illegally settled,” read part of the council’s statement.
Meanwhile, Harare has sent red signals to the residents concerning the fraudsters who are said to be dishing out land in Harare South purporting to be council officials.
The said fraudsters are said to be moving in an Identified Nissan Hard Body with registration number AGV 1621 and a Honda Fit registration number AET 8845 and are alleged to be acting as council officials in order for them to gain trust in selling residential stands to the people.
However, the city council has distances itself from these ‘fraudsters’.
“Please note that the council does not sell land through third parties,” read part of the statement while urging home seekers to verify the authenticity of such people with the council’s Housing and Community Services Department.
