Govt Fires ZIMRA Board

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, has with immediate effect fired the current  Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) board, in a bid to promote efficiency and effectiveness in revenue collection.

Addressing stakeholders at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe mid term monetary review in the capital today, Professor Ncube, said the new board will be announced in due course and in the mean time ZIMRA senior management will be reporting directly to Treasury.

“In order to enhance governance at ZIMRA, l hereby terminate the term of the current  Board with immediate effect. l have proposed names of new Board members which are currently being cleared.

“The new board will be announced in due course,in the mean time ZIMRA senior management will be reporting directly to Treasury. l take this opportunity to thank the out going board members for the services rendered,” he said.

Meanwhile Ncube has ceased all recruitment of new personnel within ZIMRA until a new board is in place saying that will allow the new board to have input into critical appointments.

“ZIMRA senior management is hereby directed to cease all recruitment of new personnel within ZIMRA until a new board is in place,this is to allow the new board to have input into critical appointments.

“Going forward, systems of ZIMRA will be upgraded and enhanced in order to improve efficiency in revenue collection, especially at boarder posts, mechanisms will be put in place to eradicate any corruption activities,” Ncube said.
