Government has applauded the United Nations for the work they have been doing and progress they have made under Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework (ZUNDAF) in 2017.
Addressing various stakeholders yesterday in Harare at the 2017 High Level ZUNDAF Annual Review, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said he looks forward to the UN’s continued support following the successful projects they have undertaken in Zimbabwe.
“I look forward to the UN’s continued support to the government in regularly convening all stakeholders and development partners in order to guarantee sustainable development of the country. Under the principles of national ownership and leadership the government and the UN will continue to work closely together under the strategic framework of ZUNDAF up to 2020,
“The year 2017 represented an a historic year of political transition in Zimbabwe, it is important to note that the UN has renewed its collective commitment to support the new government and national efforts to foster social cohesion and peace, economic recovery and self creation, improved quality delivery of social services, anti corruption program, credible and transparent elections and the re-engagement with the international community
“It is important to note that during the El nino induced drought and Cyclone Dineo induced flood UN stood by Zimbabwe to withstand the negative impact of the climatic change phenomena,” said Sibanda.
He added that despite the challenges, concrete results were achieved in 2017 through positive partnerships in areas such as social services, gender equality and scaled up HIV/AIDS responses among others.
Speaking at the same event UN Resident Coordinator, Bishow Parajuli said the results and resources delivered under the ZUNDAF initiative were made possible due to the close collaboration with the Government, particularly the Office of the President and Cabinet.
