…calls for land audit
CHIMANIMANI – ZANU PF women’s league boss issued a thinly veiled warning to unproductive beneficiaries of the land grabbers saying they risk losing their land.
Speaking at a star rally at Mutambirwa Mission, Dr Amai Grace Mugabe, who is also the First Lady, lambasted unproductive farmers who amassed land, saying it renegades against the national objectives.
Dr Amai Mugabe said to flush out such people government should conduct a comprehensive land audit.
“Kune vamwe vanhu vanemakaro ekukumba, vanokumba mazimudhandanda eminda but havasi kuishandisa (There are some greedy people who just want to amass and have grabbed for themselves large tracts of land but they are not using it)
“Ini ndicharamba ndichienderera mberi ndichitaura kuti kunofanirwa kuitwa land audit kuona kuti vakapihwa minda murikuishandisa here sekutarisirwa kurikuitwa hurumende yenyu (I will keep on calling for a land audit to determine whether those that got land are using it as expected by government),” she said
Dr Mugabe also urged farmers to be more productive to honor the dearly departed war heroes who fought for the land to return to the black majority of Zimbabwe.
“Kana wapihwa munda ngaushande munda iwowo kana usingagkwanisi be honest kuti handisi kukwanisa upihwe vanogona ndokuti avo vakarara pa Mozambique vakaona tichiita zvakanaka vanozorora murugare. “When you are given land let that land be fully utilized, if you cannot use it be honest and that land be given to those who can use it so that those ‘war heroes’ lying in Mozambique may rest in peace),” she said.
Dr Amai Mugabe made these remarks after Manicaland Minister of State, Mandi Chimene has earlier on who urged farmers to produce in order to fulfill ZIMASSET.
She said while President Mugabe was vilified internationally for the Land Reform Programme, it was the duty of the farmers to exonerate him by producing, warning the unproductive that they risk losing part of their plots.
“Tinokumbirawo kuvarimi, amai baba vakatipa minda varikuvengwa kunyika dzese nekutora minda vachipa vanhu vavo but it’s also disappointing amai, minda iyoyi yatakapa vanhu yatove chituko umwe ukamuti rimaka wamakwa, ukati tinoigura wamakwa. Asi amai ndirikuda kutaura pamberi penyu kuti tichaigura. (We are asking the farmers, for after the President gave us our land he has been vilified, this land is like a curse because some of the farmers do not listen to the voice of reason.)
“Minda kana usirikuisevenseza (If you are not using your land productively) because of the issue of food security and nutrition tichaigura tichikusiira paunogona (we will cut it and leave what you can use),” she said.
