I Fear For My Life: Zhuwao

Fugitive former Minister of Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare, Patrick Zhuwao, says he will return to Zimbabwe in the near future but is scared to do so at the moment as he fears for his life.

Zhuwao, who is on a self imposed exile following his mercurial fall from power, at the ascendancy of the President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, told United States based Voice Of America that despite his desire to come back home, he still fears that he will be “dealt with” upon arrival.

“Obviously, we (together With Jonathan Moyo and Savior Kasukuwere) will go back to Zimbabwe at some point; that is home, that is where i was raised.

“But those who took power do not want to listen to the people. They only decided that they want to rule Zimbabwe and they went on to take guns,” noted Zhuwao.

He further noted that the ascendancy of Mnangagwa on power through unorthodox ways, was a bad omen for the country and has long term implications on the country’s peace.

He said he would not, at any given time, congratulate Mnangagwa’s rise to the country’s top post as he was an illegitimate leader and accused the new government of being murderers.

Zhuwao dismissed Mnangagwa saying he will not get 15 percent of the votes in a free and fair process as he is unpopular with the electorate.

“Our ancestors are not happy with what is happening, this government is illegitimate, they took power by force. I cannot congratulate thieves. He (Mnangagwa) knows that he is not electable, he was ‘beaten’ in Kwekwe and he ended up by creating his constituency,”

“He managed to canvass support from the military for him to grab power. I am not going to work with murderers and those who joined him only think about their stomachs.

“They went to my house with two lorries full of soldiers to interrogate my wife, they knew that I was in Argentina, my farm workers were beaten,” said Zhuwao, who is Mugabe nephew.

Mugabe was booted out of office late last year through a bloodless military coup which brought to an end his 37-year iron grip on power.

The move saw a number of high ranking officials aligned to Mugabe and his wife Grace, being kicked out of power.

Since taking over from Mugabe, Mnangagwa has made numerous calls for former Zanu PF members who were aligned to the G40 cabal to come back home and help rebuild the country.
