Financial institution FBC Holdings in collaboration with other stakeholders, yesterday held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new hostel at Shungu Dzevana Trust Children’s Home in Harare.
Speaking at the event, FBC Holdings Board Chairperson and Trust patron Herbert Nkala said the initiative represents a significant step in the group’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children.
“This groundbreaking ceremony represents a symbolic step forward in our shared and enduring commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children in our care as the FBC group,” said Nkala.
He said during FBC’s 32nd anniversary celebrations last year, it became clear that adequate shelter and decent accommodation were essential to the holistic care and development of children at Shungu Dzevana Trust.
“This ceremony stands as a testament to what the FBC Group and the Home can achieve. We are confident that this initiative will have a lasting and positive impact on the lives of future generations,” he added.
Founded by Sister Mercy Mutyambizi in 1992, Shungu Dzevana Children’s Home currently cares for approximately 500 children and has supported over 150 graduates.
“Shungu Dzevana has nurtured and empowered children who have gone on to become doctors, engineers, nurses, chartered accountants, and other professionals who are contributing meaningfully to society,” Nkala said.
Property developer Ken Sharpe, who is also sponsoring the Trust pledged to donate 100 000 bricks toward the construction project and applauded FBC for its corporate social responsibility efforts.
