Fasting Tripoli Massacre Caps United

Zimbabwe representatives in the CAF champions league, Caps United have an uphill task to qualify into the round of the lucrative continental club competition after they were routed 4-2 by a visiting Al Ahli Tripoli at the National Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

It was the first defeat for Caps United at home in the tournament with their last home match against USM Alger ending 2-1 in favor of Makepekepe.

Caps United went into the game favourites after producing one of their best perfomances in the home game against USM Algiers but that was not to be as their opponent never gave them a chance to dominate play.

While Lloyd Chitembwe would want to attribute his team’s poor showing on injuries that rocked his camp ahead of this tie, it was Al Ahli Tripoli who showed the fighting spirit in a foreign territory after going into half time carrying a comfortable 3-0.

The home team was exposed in the first 20 minutes  of the game with some defensive errors that saw the visitors score two goals in quick succession in the 17th and 19th minute with the third goal coming five minutes later.

Chitembwe however said the match has been a learning curve for his team, blaming the massacre on inadequate preparations and a string of injuries to his first 11.

“I am proud of my boys because we have learned a lot of things from this game, but because of not having enough preparations going into this game we were defeated at home” said Chitembwe
