FWZ liaison personnel, Nyasha Machiwana said the idea has been driven by a strategic commitment to spur economic development in the fashion and design sector.

“We are hoping to provide a design incubator where designers can collaborate, participate in a master class training, have a place they can produce in quantity and have opportunities to access markets outside of Zimbabwe ,” said Machiwana.

She added that Kusika is targeting all designers who are using their hands to create designer apparel in form of clothing, jewellery, craft and lifestyle products among others.

“We feel through Kusika we are providing designers with a hub where they can accelerate their brands and start to make economic moves to sustain their brands and livelihoods,”

“It has been a mandate for Fashion Weekend to support the business of Fashion and Design, developing businesses through skills training, cultivating livelihoods through market access locally and internationally,” she said.

Kusika which means ‘to create’ in shona is an open platform for unemployed women and men who seek to financially support their families through their creativity.
