Family Dismiss Charles Mungoshi Death Rumors

Mungoshi family has dismissed rumors doing rounds on social media that the legendary author and poet Charles Mungoshi has died.

In a telephone interview with 263Chat, Charles Mungoshi Jnr said his father is very much alive dismissing social media reports as baseless.

“I do not know where people are getting all that, my father is very much alive,” said Mungoshi Jnr adding that the “Waiting for the Rain” author was at home and doing very well.

The legendary author was recently hospitalized for a repeat operation after doctors at a government hospital inserted a shunt to drain fluids from his brain last year.

In May 2010, he suffered a stroke and went into a coma for close to two months.When he came to, he was not able to speak, walk or write.

The renowned Zimbabwean author won the Noma Award in 1992 and the Commonwealth Writers Prize (Africa Region) twice in 1988 and 1998.

Some of his works include Makunungunu Maodzamoyo, Coming of the Dry Season, Kunyarara Hakusi Kutaura and Waiting for the rain among others.
