Exiled From Home For Political Persuasion

Never Kanzurosi (34) from Mutare, the capital city of Manicaland province has been made a persona non grata from his country ever-since the days of the late longtime Zimbabwean strongman Robert Mugabe who ruled the Southern Africa nation with an iron fist for 37 years until he was deposed by a military coup that eventually installed his close lieutenant Emmerson Mnangagwa as leader in 2017.

For Kanzurosi and many other opposition activists who have been victims of the bloodletting orchestrated by the ZANU PF regime, in power since the attainment of political independence in 1980, it never rains but it pours.

They thought the coming into power of the so called new dispensation led by Emmerson Mnangagwa who promised a new way of doing things would change the political landscape but alas, the longtime Mugabe understudy nicknamed the crocodile has actually perpetuated and perfected the brutal political persecution of political opponents just like his mentor who tortured, maimed, brutalized and killed those who opposed his rule.

Kanzurosi’s mother Joyce juwao who last saw his son in 2015 is a bitter woman.

“He left for Namibia way back in 2019 when he had fallen victim on several occasions from Mugabe’s dreaded militia then known as the Green Bombers,” said Juwao.

“Not only the Green Bombers were my son’s tormentors, but also the central intelligence organisation operators who seemed to be allergic to all those who were against Mugabe’s political ideology,” she said bitterly.

Juwao said they used to communicate over the phone with his son while he was in Namibia, until the violence of August 2018 and January 2019 when Mnangagwa finally revealed his true colours to the world and more than 20 people lost their lives in the violence that ensued a disputed election and hiking of fuel prices respectively.

“Now, am not even aware of my son’s whereabouts,” laments the mother of four showing great concern for not seeing his son for such a long time.

“Honestly speaking, in a progressive society, I do not think one should not be punished for differing politically with those in power,” she said.

Kanzurosi is just about one of the many opposition political activists who have ran away from Zimbabwe for fear of being killed by the brutal ZANU PF regime.
