Cecil Matare of 258 Pentagon, Epworth was yesterday dragged to court for ill-treating his stepdaughter.
The 20 year old Matare appeared before Harare Magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe facing two counts of ill-treating a child as defined in section 7 (1) of the children’s protection and adoption Act Chapter 5:06
According to state papers, on the 16th day of March Cecil Matare being the guardian (step father) of a child (name withheld) aged 3 unlawfully assaulted her with a cooking stick on the left arm, thereby causing her unnecessary suffering which is detrimental to her morals or part of her body and mind.
The court also heard that around 2100 hours of the same day, the accused person arrived at home and started shouting at the complainant accusing her of not greeting him.
The accused person then unlawfully tied the complaint’s legs with a belt and hang her on the door with her legs up and head down and left her suspended thereby causing her unnecessary suffering which is detrimental to her morals or part of her body and mind .
The accused also threatened to assault his wife if she unties the complainant.
The accused is in custody pending trial.
However, the accused’s wife could not be located as she is hiding from testifying against the husband.
