MDC-T secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora has urged a rival faction led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa to stop taking advantage and exploiting unemployed youths from high density suburbs to engage in acts of violence.
According to Mwonzora, youths aligned to Chamisa attempted to break into Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House on Sunday evening with their efforts thwarted by an alert MDC-T security team.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters Monday afternoon, Mwonzora implored the MDC Alliance to engage youths from Borrowdale and other affluent suburbs.
“We are saddened that the MDC Alliance on the orders of G40 are exploiting the desperation of the youths to force them to commit act of violence, lawlessness and anarchy in return of ridiculously low sums of money and cheap labor.
“We urge all the youth to resist all these unlawful engagements. Most of these youths are taken from Mbare, Mufakose and Highfields, we challenge those who are using these youths to engage youths from Borrowdale, Mt Pleasant, Glen Lorne and other suburbs,” said Mwonzora.
He said the MDC-T will not sit back to acts of violence but will use lawful means to thwart any violent conduct from their rivals.
“We are not going to bend down or give in to anarchy, lawlessness and violence from whichever quarter. We will resist the same by all lawful means. Those who want to engage us in violence are trying to engage us in a race to the bottom. We decline that invitation.
“The reason why these acts are being perpetrated is to try and disturb our Extra Ordinary Congress preparations. We are happy to announce that our preparations are at an advanced stage.” he said.
Contacted for comment MDC Alliance deputy national spokesperson Clifford Hlatshwayo dismissed Mwonzora’s allegations saying the Alliance does not have anything to do with what is happening at Harvest House.
“MDC-A has nothing to do with what is happening at MRT House. Mwonzora came in the middle of the night with armed soldiers and took over MDC-A headquarters MRT house and handed it to ZANU PF. MDC A has not set its foot at MRT house.
“We heard Mwonzora and crew looted computers, printers, office furniture, and heavy duty equipment worth thousands of US dollars. We heard they were cooking using firewood and brew beer in MRT house.
“The People of Zimbabwe must not worst their time to listen to a liar who is working with darkness ZANU PF. Let him do what he is doing with Zanu PF, very soon he will cry. His madness will be stopped. He is a kind of a person who loves money and power. But it will backfire very soon. MDC-A has nothing to do with what is happening and happened recently at MRT house.” Hlatshwayo said.
The MDC-T is due to hold its Extra Ordinary Congress during the second week of December.
