DStv’s Zambezi Magic Partners With International Film Festival

DStv’s Zambezi Magic channel is co-sponsoring this year’s International Images Film Festival, which runs in Harare for a week from Friday August 26.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the festival, focused on women, was a suitable platform for promotion of awareness of Zambezi Magic, which was created in 2015 to give greater continental visibility of film and television productions created in Southern Africa, including Zimbabwe.

“We are delighted to be associated with this prestigious event and look forward to a long and happy relationship and to providing support for what has become a major annual arts and entertainment initiative,” she said.

“Zambezi Magic is at the early stages of developing this platform for local content and the IIFF is also in the process of building a foundation for promotion of films that highlight women’s issues. MultiChoice Zimbabwe has been pleased to be involved in this process, linking the festival and the channel that is becoming an essential part of the Zimbabwean film and television scene.”

The festival opens on Friday with a programme of 56 films being screened at five venues in Harare. Nine of these films are sourced from Zimbabwean filmmakers, including Wizzy Mangoma and Dorothy Meck. The theme of the festival for 2016 is Women Alive: Women of Heart, and helps IIFF focus on telling stories of women in a positive manner.
