Established local women online magazine, Divas Inc on Wednesday last week hosted the inaugural Zim Women Roar award ceremony at a colorful ceremony in Harare where 14 women from various categories were honored for their outstanding contribution to society.
Speaking to 263Chat, Divas Inc Founding and Chief Editor, Josephine Kanengoni said she was inspired to host the Zim Women Roar awards to tell the stories of other women that are not being heard.
“I was inspired to host Zim Women Roar awards to tell the many untold stories of other women, there are many stories of Zimbabwean women that are silenced,
“We were inspired by Black Girls Rock in America and all the black Americans that are being celebrated and I thought that are so many stories of phenomenal women in Zimbabwe that need to be told,
“There are millions of us that need to be celebrated and this is the platform to celebrate them,” she said.
According to Kanengoni, the Zim Women Roar awards will be an annual event.
“This was the first edition of the Zim Women Roar Awards and will be an annual event to look forward too,
“However celebrating the Zimbabwean woman will be an everyday event, we need to say each and every day we see you and celebrate you,
“The brand of the Zimbabwean is a powerful brand and Zimbabwean women need to own the brand, be fearful and own the brand,” said Kanengoni.
Divas Inc Magazine was founded in 2013 and it is platform were women can engage and converse on a daily basis on the many issues around women.
It started off as online magazine in South Africa then moved to Zimbabwe for easy engagement with Zimbabwean women.
