Mashonaland Central Provincial Minister, Advocate Martin Dinha torched a storm last week after he told people in Mashonaland Central to resoundingly vote for him and the ruling Zanu PF party so that they can extend their grip on power.

Dinha made the remarks while officiating at the celebrations of attaining Open Defecation Free (ODF) status by communities in Murwira, Muganhi, Chihuri, Mutasa A and Mutasa B Villages in Hwata ward of Muzarabani District.

“Tiri kuenda kusarudzo gore rino and we know kuti imimi ndimi vanotivhotera. Saka ini ndinoda kuti mundivhoterewo pamwe chete na va Mnangagwa nevese varikumiririra Zanu PF (We are going to an election and we know you are the electorate and you vote us into power. so I want you to vote for me and the President, Emmerson Mnangagwa and all other Zanu-PF candidates)

“Ini ndinoda kuti mundivhotere kuti ndirambe ndichingotonga, ehe, handinganyepe kuti handidi kutonga, ndinoda kuramba ndichivhoterwa kuti ndirambe ndichngotonga Kuno ku Mash Central, (I want you to continue voting for me so that I continue to rule. Yes, I cannot lie that I don’t want to rule, I want to continue being voted into power so that I continue ruling in Mash Central)” said Dinha.

Dinha who began his political career as Mayor of Bindura before becoming a Member of Parliament for Mazowe West could have in a subtle way revealed his party, Zanu PF’s wish not to relinquish power- a case in point, the 2008 Presidential election runoff when they unleashed violence on opposition supporters after losing the first round of polls.
