Dangote Commissions $600m Cement Plant In Tanzania

The Dangote Cement Plc has commissioned its new three million metric tonnes per annum cement plant located in the Mtwara District of Tanzania.

The new plant, which is part of the company’s Africa expansion strategy, is the fourth plant to be commissioned after Ethiopia, Zambia and the Cameroun plants. Before the end of this year, the Company plan to commission the plants in Senegal and South Africa.

Dangote Group, over the weekend, strengthened the bilateral trade between Nigeria and Zambia with the official opening of the Group’s $600 million cement plant, with installed capacity of three million metrics tonne per annum.

Speaking at the event, the executive governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai who represented the President of Nigeria, Gen Muhammadu Buhari said, the plant is quite significant and one of the biggest investment by African company in Tanzania.

According to him, Africa has finally taken its destiny in its own hand rather than waiting endlessly for investors outside the continent. Only African will genuinely develop Africa. As a matter of fact Africa has being receiving a lot of attention of lately from international investors, not because it is seen as the last franchise of development in the world but because of the high rate of returns.

“Though there are some challenges facing investors in Africa, these challenges are part of our reality and can easily be overcome with the right investment strategies in place. Dangote Group has demonstrated the possibility to do business profitable in Africa despite the challenges.”

He added that Dangote Group has been promoting African integration through its massive investment across 15 African countries, saying the Group is also exploring the possibility of investing in Zimbabwe and Nepal in Asia.

In his address speech, the president/chief executive, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, expressed gratitude to the President and the people of Tanzania for provided the enabling environment, stressing that the investment was made possible due to the enabling created by the government.

Dangote noted that a key factor which drives investments in an economy is the presence of an investor-friendly business climate, stressing that, Tanzania is one of the most attractive investment destinations in Africa.
