The official launch of this year’s national culture week celebrations will be held at Chinhoyi Stadium,Mashonaland West.
The culture week will run from 16 to 23 May 2015 under the theme, Celebrating Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship.
While the national launch will be in Mashonaland West on 16 May 2015, provincial celebrations will be held throughout the country.
“The national official Culture Week launch is a national event coordinated by National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) Head Office and implemented by the hosting province in which this year it is Mashonaland West.
“The launch marks the beginning of the celebration of the importance of cultural diversity throughout the country through various cultural and artistic expressions. Some of the activities at the official launch include street marching by artists and cultural activists, fashion show, music and dance performances, art and craft exhibition and herbal medicine exhibitions,” said National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) in a statement.
NACZ said the through such platforms arts players must be able to make a living through their trade.
“Running under the theme; “Celebrating Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship” NACZ acknowledges that Zimbabwe, endowed with a multiplicity of cultures, can revel in the 2015 celebrations by going beyond the regular showcasing.
“The idea is to ensure that the sector does not remain a vehicle for others to build their wealth, but that members of the sector, through their varied artistic skills, are able to improve livelihoods across the board,” the organisation said.
Culture Week was inaugurated in 2002 after it was observed that one day was too short a period to leave an impact in people. In addition, artists found the one day not adequate to allow them to celebrate and display their works to the public.
