Crisis Coalition Boss Mahiya Denied Bail

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) Chairperson Rashid Mahiya who was arrested yesterday in connection with shutdown protests was denied bail and remanded in custody to the 12th of March by Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

Magistrate Mugwagwa advised Mahiya to approach the High court for bail considerations.

Mahiya who is being charged of allegedly subverting a constitutionally elected government is being represented by Tonderai Bhatasara from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human rights.

The circumstances surrounding the matter are that during the period extending from 3 December to 6 December 2018, Mahiya connived with other accomplices who are still at large and addressed a conference at Wild Geese Conference Centre.

Mahiya is alleged to have uttered unknown words which, as the state alleges caused people to engage in acts of public violence, wanton destruction of properties.

Shepherd Makonde is representing the state.
