Religious leaders have urged Zimbabweans to embrace President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for national dialogue saying the nation needs to set aside differences and put the economy and people first.

Posting on Facebook following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for dialogue upon return from his four-nation visit to Europe, Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) Rev Kenneth Mtata said;

“I invite leaders of all political parties as well as religious and civil leaders to set aside our differences and come together. What unites us is stronger than what could ever divide us. Let’s begin a national dialogue. Let’s put the economy first. Let’s put the people first.” (President E.D this morning on Facebook).

“We need to embrace this.”

Leader of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe and businessman, Dr Shingi Munyeza urged President Mnangagwa to fulfill the promise he made soon after elections that he will be like the biblical King David.

“Welcome back to a wounded nation. At the prayer breakfast below you agreed to be like King David.The path we have taken is that of King Saul.Take us back to what you promised,” said Munyeza.

The church has been unequivocal in its call for dialogue between the ruling Zanu PF and the opposition to map a way forward for the country.
