Chiyangwa Fires Warning Shots

ZIFA president, Dr Philip Chiyangwa says he will contest in the association’s next elections warning anyone who dares challenge him will be viciously fought.

Chiyangwa said he will seek a fresh mandate because he was currently finishing off the Cuthbert Dube executive’s term.

The latest however seems to be a change of heart by the maverick businessman who had indicated that he would only serve until 2018.

“ l have not finished a term even if l went in the next(election), remember l did not come in at the outset of my term. l took over somebody’s term. l have only been in here for one and half years so when l finish this one, the next one becomes my actual term. After that one, l won’t ask for more,” Chiyangwa said.

Chiyangwa said wishing to challenge him next year should be prepared for a fight: “Those who want to challenge me next year must brace themselves for a fight, l will throw everything in there, so before you even come for the match, you will say, aah this guy is doing everything to his advantage. No, l am the president, if you challenge me, you have to expect a fight.

Any sitting president anywhere, political or otherwise cannot be challenged by a person who is outside,(ini ndirikutonga, ndirimukati iwe wouya uchiti urikuda kubvuta power, hauriwane, hauriwane.Enda unovata).

Chiyangwa was elected Zifa President in 2015 shrugging off competition from Trevor Carelse Juul, James Takavada and Leslie Gwindi.

Chiyangwa has recorded a milestone since taking over as Zifa president.  He was elected Cosafa president and inspired Ahman Ahman’s victory as CAF president. zifmnews.com
