Minister of Youth and Women Affairs, Sithembiso Nyoni on Monday showered praises on Vice President, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga labeling him a distinguished strategist and the indisputable champion of “Operation Restore Legacy.”
Introducing Chiwenga as the guest of honor at the commissioning of a new state of art Splash paint and plastic making plant, Nyoni said the former Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Commander had exhibited exceptional skills and negotiating abilities when he led the first bloodless coup in the world.
“He is a distinguished cadre of the liberation struggle which brought our political and economic independence.
“He is a distinguished strategist,a commander and an disputable champion of operation restore legacy which exhibited his resolute leadership as well as exceptional skills as negotiating abilities,” said Nyoni.
She also ran through Chiwenga’s curriculum vitae from the time he joined the liberation struggle, rising through the ranks to become the ZNA Commander following the death of Vitalis Zvinavashe in 2004.
“In 1978 he became a member of ZANLA high command and was appointed commissar into 1980 independence, at independence he was the liaison in Masvingo, Manicaland and Matebeland provinces during the integration period.
“He was promoted to brigadier on 6 April 1981 and appointed the first black commander up to 1984,he rose through the general ranks where he became a full general in 2004 and assumed the appointment of commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces taking over from V.M.Gava Zvinavashe,” added Nyoni.
Chiwenga attended the official commissioning of Splash paints new plant on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
In his speech, Chiwenga challenged all sectors of the economy to be active contributors to foreign currency generation.
