A consortium of church organisations under the banner of Zimbabwe Divine Destiny (ZDD) have accused Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba of failing to administer the July 30 polls saying she is the reason Zimbabwe is in a political mess.
Pastor Guthrie Maluse of the Zimbabwe Divine Destine (ZDD) told journalists at a news conference in Harare today that the July 30 harmonized elections are a result of the intransigence and ineptitude of ZEC which failed to heed warnings flagged by contesting parties.
“We hold Justice Priscilla Makanyara Chigumba accountable and responsible for this unnecessary political mess that has even led to the killing of innocent civilians by a trigger happy soldiers of the ZNA.
There was abundant evidence from the onset that the issues raised by many opposition parties pointed to a very contentious election outcome but she was arrogant and unaccommodating to very pertinent concerns,” said Maluse.
“Now we have a dispute in the Constitutional Court arising largely from ZEC’s incompetence to play the impartial referee.
“We exhort the 12 judges currently seized with this matter to brook no interference from any quarter be it the executive with its long tentacles nor the opposition or anyone for that matter,” said Maluse.
Meanwhile, the court hearing for the Presidential election result challenge will be heard on the 22nd August of 2018.
