Chief Zvimba on Saturday heaped praises on President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwe National Army for facilitating the removal of the so-called criminals which had surrounded former President Robert Mugabe.

The 94-year Mugabe was removed from power in November last year through a military coup dubbed ‘Operation Restore Legacy’.

Speaking at a Zanu-PF Thank You rally in Murombedzi over the weekend, Chief Zvimba, a relative of Mugabe, said the alleged G40 members must be dealt with decisively.

“We thank you for keeping the former president in safe hands and providing him with everything that he needs.

“However, the criminals who had surrounded the former President must be dealt with decisively. They were putting the reputation of the party in disrepute. They had captured the former president. They were also victimising civilians.

“So we thank you for facilitating their removal from power. Some of them had become very disrespectful; they were in the habit of bypassing protocol. The likes of (Saviour) Kasukuwere and (Ignatius) Chombo, had become hot headed,” so thank you for removing them,” said Chief Zvimba.

However, despite making several arrests on the alleged criminals, only former energy minister, Samuel Undenge was sentenced raising questions on whether Mnangagwa’s government is sincere in fighting corruption.
