Chidzambwa For CECAFA Tournament
Veteran coach, Sunday Chidzambwa has been appointed to take charge of Zimbabwe warriors participation in the upcoming Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) to be held in Kenya from the 25th of November to the 9th of December.
According to Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), warriors accepted the invitation to play as a guest nation at the 2017 CECAFA tournament.
Chidzambwa, who clinched the COSAFA cup early this year has been entrusted by the football mother body ZIFA to lead the warriors in Kenya.
In a statement released by ZIFA on Monday, warriors were invited in the competition among other countries from the East Africa.
“Zimbabwe will join Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations [Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Sudan and Somalia] between 25 November and 9 December 2017,” said ZIFA in a statement released on Monday.
The mother body is banking on the experience of Chidzambwa who is unarguably the most decorated gaffer in the country.
“Chidzambwa has vast experience as a national team coach, having earned Zimbabwe her first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2004.
“The veteran coach has also enjoyed considerable success in the region, winning this year’s COSAFA Castle Cup hosted by South Africa in July.
“Affectionately known as ‘Mhofu’, Chidzambwa is currently the head coach of ZPC Kariba Football Club and will be expected to turnaround the fortunes of the national team who lost against Lesotho and Namibia during the international break,” added ZIFA.
