Movement for Democratic Change leader and MDC Alliance Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has vowed to improve the welfare of war veterans, accusing the government of lacking sincerity about their economic status.
Addressing thousands of MDC supporters who thronged Mutoko Centre in Mashonaland East province yesterday, Chamisa lashed government for insincerity towards the war liberators welfare.
“As soon as we assume power, we will invite the war veterans to the table because they deserve a share in the economy of this country, they should be given their dues because they did a great job for this country.
“War veterans are crying and if you see them asking for their welfares it means they have been denied and forgotten and those who should take responsibility respond in political terms,” said Chamisa.
He made reference to the late liberation war hero, Dickson Chingaira also known as Cde Chinx saying he died poor without a decent house.
“Not what happened to “Chinx” (May his soul rest in peace) that you die without a decent house, what have we died for?
“War veterans today have no money and they are not recognised in our communities because they are poor.
“I am going to raise a flag over war veterans’ situation that they should be happy because if they are not happy the country as well cannot be happy,” added Chamisa.
