Movement for Democratic Change, MDC Alliance Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa has sensationally threatened to reveal how Zanu PF intends to rig the forthcoming elections claiming that he has sources in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government who informed him of the whole plan.
“Senior sources in the government told me how the ballot paper was manipulated in the 2013 election, and i am going to reveal it very soon,” he said while addressing a news conference at the party offices in Harare yesterday.
Chamisa however reiterated his earlier threats that elections will not take place until critical issues including audit of the voters roll have been done.
“One great concern is over the state of the voters roll. The process of getting the voters roll as required by law has been as painful and excruciating as extracting a tooth. What we got, late and after pressure, was not consistent with the law,” said Chamisa.
He however called on the Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Union (AU) and the international community to intervene, accusing the electoral management body, ZEC of being arrogant and partisan.
“Once again, we wish to impress upon our beloved neighbors under the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and our dear brothers in the African Union (AU) to ensure that this election is truly free, fair and credible in terms of the standards guiding democratic elections,” said Chamisa.
He cited four demands that he said are critical for the forthcoming elections to pass the credibility test including availing of the voters roll, transparent and inclusive printing and distribution of ballot papers as well as greater stakeholder participation in the whole electoral cycle.
“For this election to pass the barest minimum standards of variability, security and transparency around the Voters’ Roll and ballot papers, ZEC must ensure that, the full version of the Voters’ Roll is immediately provided to the parties and independently audited, there is transparent printing of ballot papers and observation of the printing process by candidates, the printed ballot papers are stored in a secure place where there is inclusive stakeholder participation and joint security, the distribution of ballot papers to the polling stations is done in an inclusive, transparent and traceable manner where stakeholders participate,” said MDC Alliance presidential candidate,” added Chamisa.
