The opposition party, the Movement For Democratic Change (MDC) are crying foul over tight bail conditions imposed on its Youth League Secretary-General, Gift Ostallos Siziba, who is being charged with incitement to commit public violence.
Siziba appeared at the Rotten Row Magistrates Court this morning for his routine hearing and he was slapped with more stringent bail conditions as his travelling documents have also been taken.
In a statement, MDC Spokesperson, Daniel Molokeli said his party feels hard done by the justice system and allege that there is political interference in the case.
“The MDC is unhappy about the new bail conditions that have been imposed on our Youth Assembly Secretary-General Gift Ostallos Siziba.
“Under the new tight conditions, SG Siziba is now expected to report to the police at least three times a week. His travel documents have also been taken away from him. The MDC suspects that there has been a high level of political interference in his case,” said Molokeli.
He said Siziba has since instructed his lawyers to lodge an appeal urgently.
The new conditions come barely a week before the widely anticipated MDC demonstrations sated for 16 August in Harare which is meant to push the President Emmerson Mnangagwa government to act on the decaying economy.
The government has on several occasions threatened to use force on opposition party supporters who would demonstrate against Mnangagwa.
