Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has threatened to drag the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to court over what they said is ‘going slow on voter registration’ despite elections being a few months away.

Writing on his Twitter account, MDC-T Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora accused ZEC of registering a maximum of 100 new voters per day in Harare which he said was unacceptable.

“We are taking to court over the go slow in voter registration in Harare. They are registering a maximum of 100 people per day in Harare,” said Mwonzora.

In an interview with 263Chat, Mwonzora confirmed his party’s decision to approach the courts to seek redress over the potential disenfranchisement of new voters.

“We are going to court today and we have so many issues to present before the court of law against ZEC including the pace it is moving on registering voter,” he said.

The Movement for Democratic Change has been pushing for electoral reforms with party President, Nelson Chamisa vowing that elections will not proceed as long as their demands are not met.

On the other hand, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga have promised to deliver free, fair and credible elections and have gone as far as extending an invitation to European Union and United States of America to observe the forthcoming elections.
