Cephas Msipa dies

Former Zanu PF Politburo Member and Midlands Governor , Cephas Msipa has died. He was 85.

Msipa died at the West End Hospital in Harare around 4 am on Monday.

Son to the late liberation hero, Douglas, confirmed the sad development to 263chat. He revealed that his father lost a battle to Pneumonia in the wee hours of Monday.

“Cde Msipa is no more, he died early this morning at the West End Hospital in Harare.

“He was suffering from Pneumonia and had a chest infection which made him cough excessively. His health deteriorated during the weekend where he was struggling with breathing,” Msipa Junior said.

He however could not disclose  funeral arrangements as he said the family was yet to meet and decide but some early mourners are gathered at his residence in Gweru.

Cephas Msipa was born on 7 July 1931 in Shabani in a family of 10 children and was married to Sharlottie Msipa.

After independence, Msipa worked in government first as deputy minister of Youth, Sport and Recreation, Manpower Planning and Development and later as minister of Water Resources and Development and lastly as Governor of the Midlands Province.

He retired from active politics in December 2014 when he decided not to contest for a central committee position.
