Organisers of the recently ended CEO Africa Roundtable have explained the reason why President Mnangagwa’s necktie was auctioned at the Victoria Falls conference last week saying they wanted to unblock the bottlenecks between the government and business sector so as to work together.
In an interview with 263Chat, CEO Africa Roundtable chairperson, Oswell Binha said they wanted to prove to people that the government is accessible.
“l am happy to talk about the symbolism of the tie obviously the media has gone to talk about the price of the tie which is important.
“l think further to that, we want the people of Zimbabwe to understand what it meant, we are saying as CEOs in this country, government and business have to work together.
“Let’s unblock all bottlenecks in terms of engagement, the President and his team are as good as Zimbabwe and on the other side, business is also as good as Zimbabwe.
“So we want to unblock and ensure that there is seeming less communication between the business sector and the government and also to guarantee that government is accessible,” said Bimha.
He added that all the CEOs who attended the Victoria Falls conference also donated their neckties so as to assist the local hospital.
“That was the bigger message we wanted to clear out, also you saw the President putting on an American tie it means we want him to proceed and be energetic in an engagement that is very crucial to Zimbabwe so as to attract foreign investments.
“People should also note that it is not only the President’s tie that was sold but every CEO who was in the conference room removed their ties and donated them as well so as to help local clinics within Victoria Falls,” said Binha.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tie was auctioned for $15 000 at the CEO Africa Round Table in Victoria Falls on Thursday with the proceeds from the sale going towards supporting Victoria Falls Hospital.
