Cassava Set To Launch Two New Services This Week

The innovation pipeline at Cassava SmartTech is now in overdrive as the company prepares to launch two more services this week.

The technology and fintech company’s subsidiary Cassava On Demand will this week introduce Vaya Express, a new package delivery service that will be operated by young people on bicycles and motor bikes.

A common feature in developed countries in Europe, the Americas and Asia, this type of App-based delivery service allows anyone to call for a rider in a matter of minutes, to make an express delivery of packages such as letters and parcels.

Vaya Express, which will be the first service of its kind in Zimbabwe, follows the launch last month of the Vaya Lift ride hailing service, which is rapidly expanding throughout Zimbabwe.

This week Cassava SmarTech will also unveil an updated platform to its Ownai e-commerce platform. First launched more than two years ago, Ownai is said to be alive and well and now commands more than one million visits per month, with over 40 000 unique sellers using the platform.

The Ownai platform helps connect buyers with sellers and is now Zimbabwe’s largest e-commerce platform. Cassava says its ambition with Ownai is to “digitize the informal market place”.

Cassava SmarTech Zimbabwe CEO Mr Eddie Chibi said the company’s objective was to ensure that customers can enjoy the entire ecosystem of its services now that it has come out from the shadows of Econet Wireless. Shareholders last week approved the company’s separate listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange as an independent entity.
