The 2016 Premier Soccer league Champions, Caps United’s victory against a stubborn FC Platinum at Rufaro stadium on Wednesday lifted them out of relegation zone for the first time since June.
Caps United went into the game following a string of poor results which saw them collecting a paltry four points from their last six league outings and were looking for nothing but victory to save their unimpressive season.
FC Platinum were the first to score in the fifth minute through Charles Sibanda before Dominic Chungwa equalized from a corner kick in the 20th minute.
Caps followed up with another superb goal from Stephen Makatuka who scored from a Ronald Pfumbidzai corner kick to seal victory for Lloyd Chitembwe.
The introduction of the veteran striker Takesure Chinyama by FC Platinum could not turn things around as Makepekepe held on to their well deserved victory with their midfield limiting Norman Mapeza’s boys going forward with the match ending 2-1 in favour of the Green Machine.
Caps United introduced their new Nigerian signing, Chiedebere Abasirim with the club supporters charmed by his few touches with the anticipation that he could follow in the shoes of Dynamos’ talismanic goalscorer Christian Epoupa Ntouba who joined Dembare from Cameroon.
Addressing the media after the match the Caps United assistant coach, Mark Mathe said his team is getting better with each passing game.
“We are happy because we grabbed the three points but I would like to acknowledge the context and the resistance that FC Platinum had today especially in the first half but we showed character and that helped us to win.
“The belief is coming back and we are happy with the way Makatuka is playing and it’s his duty to do so,” said Mathe.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was not pleased with his boys.
“I am not happy with the way we played but we are going back home and rectify our errors because all the goals we are conceding are coming from set pieces,” said Mapeza.
