As the curtain came down at the Golden Pilsener Zimababwe Open on Sunday both Den Burmester and Stuart Krog lifted the Zimbabwean Open Cup high when they won trophies at the just ended prestigious tournament at the Royal Harare Golf Club.
Zimbabwean born Burmester won the 2015 Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open after a scintillating performance at the Royal Harare Golf Club on Sunday.
The 25 year old golfer who is based in the neighbouring country, South Africa went on the impressive birdie campaign during the closure of the tournament for a popular victory after the closing with birdle on the last hole.
Burmester revealed that the last shot was his defining moment of the tournament that led him claiming the title against the Brazilian Adilson da Silva.
“This is the biggest win in my life and a massive stepping stone and hopefully we can kick on to Europe and America.
“The last shot was decisive and I had to go for the flag that was the moment that did it for me, that shot,” said Burmester.
The tournament was won by Dean Burmester who hit “the best shot of his life” on the 18th of Royal Harare Golf Club to set up the winning birdie.
Burmester was tied for the lead on 15-under-par as he came down the 18th hole, and thick crowds added to the pressure, but he confidently fired at the pin and his ball stopped two feet from the cup. He boxed the putt to go 16-under and secured a one-shot victory over Brasil’s Adilson da Silva.
Dean shot rounds of 67 66 72 67 for a 1 shot lead to lift the trophy.
Young Zimbabwean golfer Stuart Krog won the Amateur trophy at the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open played over the last at the same tournament.
Stuart defied all odds by making the cut at the country’s premier tournament and this victory for him ahead of the Zone 6 tournament in Uganda.
