Defending champions, Zimbabwe Wednesday night crushed out of the COSAFA Senior Cup after losing 2-4 to their nemesis, Zambia after the match had ended nil all in regulation time.
The Warriors, who are the record holders were using the tournament to fine tune it’s preparations for the upcoming AFCON finals which begin later this month.
The Warriors were lucky to take the match to the penalty shootout after Elvis Chipezeze saved a Zambian spot kick in regulation time on the stroke of halftime.
However, Chipezeze could not replicate his heroics as all four kicks found the back of the net.
Zimbabwe were outdone by misses from Khama Billiat and Admiral Muskwe whole managing to convert two kicks.
Acting Coach, Rahman Gumbo said the loss was not bad as it gave them a clear direction of where they want to go with the squad.
“We have done our part , what we wanted came out well, we have players to run around and we will look at the squad for selection,” Gumbo said.
Zimbabwe will now battle it out with Lesotho for a third and fourth place on Saturday.
