Bond Notes Affecting Handicraft Exports

During the recently ended CODEPA Conference of Ministers hosted by the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises & Cooperative Development in Bulawayo, our 263Chat team caught up with handicraft artists from Zimbabwe’s various provinces. Many of them complained that despite a good demand for their artifacts by visiting tourists, they continue to lose business because all international visitors are not accepting bond notes as change when they want to buy with either US Dollars or the South African Rand. Speaking to one of the tourists who graced the event, he said that it does not make sense for him to get bond notes as change because once he crosses the border, those notes will have no economic value and not accepted in any other country except here in Zimbabwe.
