It’s Bond, James Bond, On DStv

James Bond, arguably the world’s best-known secret agent,  has been handed an urgent assignment: To infiltrate the homes of DStv Premium subscribers and keep them spellbound for two weeks.

The task is under way from Thursday February 23 to Sunday March 5, when M-Net Movies will host every single Bond film – from 1963’s classic Dr No to the latest explosive big-budget blockbuster, Spectre (2015) – on an M-Net Movies pop-up channel.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the popularity of the pop-up channels had brought about a new edition of this type of channel, with all the action running on DStv’s channel 109.

“Recent pop-up channels, such as the ones featuring the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies, were huge hits, so M-Net will continue to present seasons of special movies and other programmes from time to time, and this time it’s the acclaimed James Bond franchise that comes into the spotlight,” she said.

The M-Net Movies James Bond pop-up channel pays tribute to one of Hollywood’s biggest movie franchises, which is now celebrating 55 years of the world’s most charming secret agent. Over the course of two weeks, fans will be able to  experience all the dapper tuxedos, iconic fast cars, sultry Bond girls, exotic locations, mind-blowing gadgets, deadly villains, unforgettable music, incredible title sequences and martinis… shaken, not stirred, of course.

The 24 Bond films will be screened in chronological order with Sean Connery, the first incarnation of author Ian Fleming’s suave 007, embarking on his first celluloid mission at 10.10am on Thursday 23 February. After the run of his films, he will hand the baton to George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. The final film will be Spectre, screened at 8pm on Sunday February 26, but then the entire sequence will play out again from Monday February 27, starting at 10am, ending with a Spectre screening at 11.20pm on Thursday March 2. A full final marathon of all the films runs from Friday March 3 at 10am until Sunday March 5 at 1.30pm.

“This means there are many opportunities to catch each and every Bond film, either for the first time or for the umpteenth time … they are always great and this franchise is one of the most cherished in the motion picture industry,” said Ms Dziva.

An additional bonus on the pop-up channel will be the broadcast of four documentaries: Now Pay Attention 007 (2000); Best Ever Bond (2002); Bond Girls Are Forever (2012) and Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 (2012. These take a peek behind the scenes – if they can breach the tight security that befits the life of a secret agent, that is.
