The country’s main opposition, MDC-T suffered a major blow after three party officials were yesterday convicted of murder.
The trio, Tungamirai Madzokere (MDC-T councillor), Yvonne Musarurwa, Lazarus Maengahama were found guilty of killing a Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Inspector Petros Mutedza five years ago.
MDC-T National spokesperson, Obert Gutu said that described the development as saddening.
“The MDC would like to express its deep sadness at the conviction, on a murder charge, of party cadres Yvonne Musarurwa and Tungamirai Madzokere as well as senior former party member, Last Maengahama,” said Gutu.
However, Gutu said the party hopes the three will be cleared, alleging that they are not guilty.
“The party is convinced that justice will take its course and that these three cadres will be cleared of any criminal offence when the matter is taken up on appeal,” he said.
The trio together with Phineas Nhatarikwa who was convicted for public violence will appear in court tomorrow for mitigation and sentence.
