Top Zimbabwean female tennis player Valeria Bhunu has set her sights on competing in major events after moving 456 places up the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.
Bhunu is on the up and eager to continue improving her ranking.
She ended 2015 ranked 1007 but impressive showings on the ITF circuit have seen the 21-year-old move to position 551, 456 places up the ITF ladder.
The youthful talented player said she is delighted by the feat she has achieved and is hoping for a better showing as her game improve.
“I’m happy with my achievement so far. I know I’m still far from being a household name but with hard work, I can be one of the best in the future,” said Bhunu who broke into the tennis scene as a junior and won her first major title at the Zimbabwe Open at just the age of 15.
Despite making that remarkable achievement, in recent months, Bhunu said she aspires to break into the top 250 and compete in bigger tournaments.
Bhunu is delighted with the feat which places her in a good position as the year draws to an end.
The young tennis ace who is showing good form on the ITF developmental circuit, can only hope to maintain the positive momentum which is key in ensuring she gets an opportunity to compete in WTA events.
By challenging for a place on the WTA Tour, Bhunu is looking to emulate Cara Black who boasts of having attained a highest singles ranking of number 31 in 1999.
