Warriors move one place up the FIFA rankings

The warriors have moved one place up the Fifa Coca-Cola World Rankings and they are currently placed at 123 in the world, according to the latest ranking released last Thursday.

World Champions Germany still occupy the number one on the rankings followed by Argentina on the second place while rising European giants Belgium move to third position and Colombia occupying the fourth place.

Algeria, Ivory Coast , Ghana, Tunisia and Senegal remain the top ranked African nations respectively while Cape Verde have jumped one place to be the sixth highest place African nation.

Zimbabwe’s opponents in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers the North African side Guinea moved three places up the rankings and they are now 41 in the world.

Another Group L nation, Malawi who are now number 97 in the world and Swaziland is settled at 175 in the world after they slipped 12 places down the perking order.

The small nation of Swaziland is the only side in Group L that is ranked lower than Zimbabwe.

Emirates

Zimbabwe was draw in Group L with Guinea, Malawi and Swaziland and the warriors open their campaign with an away clash against Malawi on the weekend of June 12 to 14, just two months away.

Guinea will be in Zimbabwe over the weekend of September 4-6 before the qualifiers take a rest until March 2016 when the Warriors are set to travel to Swaziland on the weekend of March 23-26 and the return leg a few days later.

The Flame of Malawi visit Zimbabwe on the weekend of June 3-5 before the Warriors wrap up their campaign with an away trip to Guinea in September 2016.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Andrew Langa promised to negotiate with his counterparts in the government to mobilise resources for the national team’s  2017 AfCon qualifiers.

“I know that ZIFA on their own will not manage the financial needs of the qualifiers and as long as there is no funding it will always be difficult to achieve the objective of qualifying for the finals,” said Minister Langa.
