Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic has named a 38 member provisional squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers matches against Botswana and Zambia in March.

Zimbabwe is set to play Botswana away in Gaborone on March 22 before hosting Zambia in Harare on March 30.

In a statement the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) communications manager Xolisani Gwesela said the huge list was as a result of uncertainty over the availability of some players due to the COVID-19 regulations and injuries.

“The coach said the unusually huge list is influenced by uncertainty over the availability of some players due to injury and COVID-19 regulations in different parts of the globe.” Gwesela said.

Logarusic said they have made the provisional squad much bigger because of policies around the COVID-19 pandemic in some countries were the Warriors ply their trade.

“Usually, our list of players should be made up of 28 players, that is 3 goalkeepers and 25 infield players. We made it much bigger because we are facing a few [potential] problems. We don’t know what [the situation] will be in England, Spain and USA because some clubs have declined to release players because of the COVID19 policies there.

“We have problems with some injured regular players whom we used in our games against Algeria, especially Khama [Billiat], [Marshall] Munetsi and [Knowledge] Musona. “We have more than 10 players whose availability is in doubt.
