With Zimbabwe facing a decade long economic crisis worsened by the non availability of cash on the market, Zimbabweans in the diaspora now have an opportunity to purchase prepaid electricity for their families and loved ones back home through a new and innovative platform called Amagetsi.com.
Amagetsi.com is an online platform which can be accessed by anyone in South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Canada and many other countries to purchase prepaid electricity for their loved ones in Zimbabwe.
The system which is expected to ease the burden of Zimbabweans who struggle to keep their houses lit due to high electricity cost, can also be accessed from anywhere in the world as long as the user has a Visa or MasterCard enabled bank card and Instant EFT.
In an interview with 263Chat, Marcus Rance of Amagetsi.com said, “Our system allows users to purchase prepaid electricity in their respective local currencies whilst the beneficiary token is delivered in US Dollar; it is available 24/7 and can be accessed anywhere using any medium with excellent support around the clock.”
Rance added that Zimbabwe presented to them an opportunity for innovation and solving real life problems for the ordinary Zimbabweans at the same time allowing diasporans to play a role in the economic development of the country.
“Zimbabwe has one of the largest numbers of the diaspora community from Africa who regularly send money home at exorbitant costs.
“That remitted money is used for numerous purchase of good and services including electricity, however, due to the cash crunch there is no guarantee that cash will be available for collection.
“Amagetsi.com reduces the inconvenience associated with the unavailability of cash by allowing the remittance of a service at a fraction of the cost of remittance,” said Rance.
On network problems and system failure, Rance said the system stability is fully controlled by ZESA.
“We are a vending channel and the system stability is fully controlled by ZESA, however we attempt to solve this problem by intelligently analysing the purchase history of our valued customers and offering advice based on the number of times and amounts they have purchased within a given period,” added Rance.
The Amagetsi system allows users to purchase prepaid electricity in their respective local currencies whilst the beneficiary token is delivered in US Dollar.
Amagetsi.com noted that Zimbabwe nationals struggle to access cash to purchase daily goods and services with the volume of remittances from outside Zimbabwe dwindling year on year which necessitated the need for innovative solutions to improve the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans who rely on the financial support of relatives in the diaspora.
According to Amagetsi.com, the system works online and can be accessed via www.amagetsi.com from anywhere in the world and at any time. The process of purchasing electricity begins by registering on the site as a user. Once the user profile has been created, one should register the beneficiary ZESA meter number(s) he/she want to purchase electricity for.
Purchasing is as easy as selecting the amount from as little as $10 and above. Once one has purchased prepaid electricity, they will receive a token on the site page and via email with the prepaid recharge amount. That token can be sent to the beneficiaries in Zimbabwe who will then load the meter with the said token.
