A Harare magistrate has set bail at $5,000 for five activists arrested for protesting against government’s misrule.
The five, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Makomborero Haruziviishe, Patson Dzamara, Pride Mkono, and Kado stood before Harare magistrate court on two accounts of robbery and obstructing or defeating the course of justice.
Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa, told the court that the five accused persons were being charged of robbery and assaulting members of the police.
The court heard that their arrest was prompted by women who visited Africa Unit Square where the activists were camping as a build-up to a nation-wide discontent to the political and socio-economic maladministration bedeviling Zimbabwe.
The court also heard that, the activists robbed the women and confiscated their property, worth $60.

Meanwhile the other 15 activists who were arrested on the same charge are still languishing in police cells at Harare Central Police Station.
Members of the Tajamuka/Sesjikile movement noted that the state is intending to use the high bail charges as a control factor to the continued stay at Africa Unit Square.
“#Tajamuka/Sesjikile remains committed and knows that the USD15billion diamond money stolen, the loss of estimated USD15 billion through Illicit Financial Flows, the catastrophic avalanche of bond notes, the over 80% unemployment rate, the decaying social service delivery and other sprouting corruption activities by government officials are more costly to the lives of the general masses than the exorbitant bail charge.
“For that reason the occupation of the Square has taken a new dimension codenamed the POVO’S PUNGWES AT THE SQUARE. Those undermining the mood of the young people and resolve to deliver the generational mandate can do so at their own peril,” reads part of the statement prepared by Tajamuka/Sesjikile
