Movement for Democratic Change led by former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai has expressed concern over government’s failure to address the grievances of striking hospital doctors.
In a statement released on Friday, the party said government should act and address various challenges facing the medical profession in the country.
“The MDC is acutely concerned and indeed deeply saddened by the ongoing industrial actions by medical doctors,” reads part of the statement, adding that doctors play an important role in people lives and for that it should not be over emphasized.
MDC-T blamed the ruling Zanu PF for showing lack of concern over this issue. “We thus call upon ZANU PF regime to immediately and urgently address that various o that have been raised by striking medical doctors.”
Hospital doctors’ strike entered its third day on Friday with all public hospitals in the country reportedly paralyzed by the industrial action.
The strike is happening at a time, Zimbabwe’s economy has collapsed leaving the majority of the citizens can not afford to private hospital fees stranded.
MDC-T blasted the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa saying he is insensitive to the concerns raised by striking doctors.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) has called on Ministry of Health and Child Care and the Health Services Board to urgently address the concerns of striking doctors.
“We wish to reiterate and lament the undesirable exposure of patients and indeed all Zimbabweans to violations of their right to healthcare.
“We note that while the bickering and gerrymandering continues patients continue to suffer. It is therefore important for the responsible institutions to address the concerns of the doctors to avoid needless loss of lives in Zimbabwe’s hospitals,” reads statement from ZADHR.
The organisation further called on the Ministry of Health and Child Care to urgently improve the conditions of work for health professionals instead of issuing threats of ostracisation and victimization and to ensure that essential drugs and medicines are provided in all public health institutions.
