A Zimbabwean woman who participated in a protests that saw Foreign Affair Minister Sibusiso Moyo humiliated by the diaspora community in the United Kingdom has expressed concern over the security situation in the country amid the heightening cases of abductions and torture of political activists.
Anna Mwanza says she fears for her life should she return to Zimbabwe as the situation continues to deteriorate.
“I am worried if I return to Zimbabwe, the Zanu PF government has long history of abductions and torture” said Mwanza
“Considering that I took part in the protests that humiliated SB Moyo, I am not safe when I return home. The regime is ruthless, they have been preaching peace but look at what is happening now.” she added.
Cases of abductions and torture have been on an increase over the past weeks. Political activists and comedians have been on the receiving end.
Recent demonstrations against President Mnangagwa’s government have been thwarted with those perceived to be opposing the government abducted and tortured before being dumped on roadside.
Zimbabwe has a long history of abductions and torture of anyone opposed to the Government and one example is that of Itai Dzamara a journalist cum political activist who was abducted in 2015 and has never been seen since then.
