Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture, and society, which has been observed annually in March since 1987. Croco Motors joined in the celebration of women’s emancipation by fostering a welcoming and supportive workplace culture for women.
For International Women’s Month 2023, the theme was centred around how people should #EmbraceEquity and society’s need to focus on gender equity.
It’s critical to understand the difference between equity and equality. One might pose the question, What exactly is equity? While equality refers to giving everyone the same opportunity, equity entails understanding that people do not all start from the same place and that inequities must be acknowledged and corrected. Equity, in contrast to equality, alludes to fairness and justice.
When it comes to the automotive industry, for a very long time, the production and maintenance of automobiles and the entire industry that supports it have been associated with masculine pursuits. Interestingly, in Zimbabwean society, more women have demonstrated that they are capable of filling significant positions in a variety of industries, including the automotive industry.
More women are occupying positions that were once considered “for men exclusively” including executive boardrooms around the world. These improvements are unquestionably positive, and there is a lot of room for women to succeed in the automotive industry. Croco Motors believes, now more than ever before, is the time for women to step up, take charge, and make a difference in their communities.
At Croco Motors, practices involving motivation and aptitude development rather than discrimination are frequent. Many female automotive technicians benefit from being given the chance to study, grow, and work in the workshops in this environment, allowing them to maximize their potential.
It is important to devote the time to assess the automobile industry’s developments to effectively target the areas that need improvement. This supports national initiatives aimed at reducing gender disparities and empowering women in the workforce.
In addition, industry leaders should look into strategies to support women by placing systems and policies that eliminate the bias of stereotypes that prevent them from working in the field, such as establishing a work-life balance and implementing mentorship or sponsorship programs to help them advance their careers.
This will enable them to advance in the direction they desire to go and augment the number of women taking control of their lives and contributing to the automotive industry’s expansion in Zimbabwe, guiding it toward a more sustainable, gender-equal, and technologically advanced future.
Croco Motors applauds the women who are working hard and breaking barriers in the automobile sector today, and showcasing why Zimbabwe should #EmbraceEquity.
