Govt Sanctions Against Its Own People Must Go: Kasukuwere

Saviour Kasukuwere

Former cabinet minister Savior Kasukuwere has accused the Zanu PF government of imposing sanctions on him and his allies since the November 2017 coup that deposed the late former President Robert Mugabe from power.

Kasukuwere was responding to Deputy Chief Secretary responsible for Presidential Communications, George Charamba who through his faceless Twitter account called Tinoedza Zvimwe poked him to denounce sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the west.

Kasukuwere said he has been under sanctions from the President Emmerson Mnangagwa administration since 2017.

“Sanctions in all forms must go. US sanctions and govt sanctions against its own people must go. Sanctions in all forms and manner are evil and inhuman. We have borne the US sanctions since 2001 and yours from 2017. Pasi nawo nevanoaisa,” said Kasukuwere.

As the exchange with Charamba continued, Kasukuwere hinted that he is aware of spirited attempts to assassinate him though he did not disclose the person or people behind it.

“I mean the personal embargo by RBZ against landings to my farm and business. Spirited attempts to assassinate me underway now,” added Kasukuwere.

The former Zanu PF National Commissar was part of a ruling party faction called G40 which was backing Mugabe against another led by Mnangagwa and former Army Commander Constantino Chiwenga.

They were haunted out of the country during the coup and have been living in exile ever since.

There are reports that Kasukuwere is bidding to challenge Mnangagwa in next year’s presidential elections set for July or early August.
